Music isn’t something that the state of North Carolina is known for, let alone rap music. In fact, If I were to ask you to name five rappers that have ever made it out of North Carolina, I assume most people’s list would end at J. Cole and Dababy (including mine). However, with stardom comes the ability to be able to provide others whom you deem worthy with a similar kind of stardom that you may have. In the case of rapper Stunna 4 Vegas, his catapult to fame by a contemporary of a much larger profile was one based more on location. DaBaby Isn’t the only rapper that believes North Carolina hip hop needs more attention, and singing fellow citizen Stunna 4 Vegas to Billion Dollar Baby, was the first step in getting that attention. Stunna 4 Vegas’s debut project however, seems like a result of being tossed into fame too quickly, and consequently putting out your debut project far too quickly. BIG 4x by Stunna 4 Vegas is an abrasive, cutthroat, and occasionally graphic album. This thing truly could not be any more trap, with the kind of intense lyrical content that’s all over it. However, where DaBaby’s appeal lies in his funky flows and quirky delivery it's a little more difficult to see where the appeal of Stunna 4 ‘ Vegas lies. Big 4x wraps itself in packaging that seems to be the blueprint for yet another bland, and forgettable trap release of 2019. One huge issue I have with this project is how Stunna’s features very consistently out-perform him on his own tracks, I would say every single time besides in the case of the awful Young Nudy feature. The solo tracks on this album feature no hook, bridge, or chorus; just raps. Almost every single one acts as if Stunna is just freestyling over a boring beat. Examples of this range from “Double D’s” to “Hittin 4”. They aren’t awful while they are on, but act as completely forgettable. Tracks that include the best features on here are the most enjoyable. Im talking about “100 Or Better” where Stunna and NLE Choppa trade disturbing bars about murder techniques. The beat features some bumping base and stuttering keys that remain engaging, and that’s more than you can say for most of the beats on this tape.
